“Hindi Po, Your Honor”

MANILA, Philippines — Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte testified before the Senate impeachment court that he had never seen the Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) of his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.

During questioning by Senate President and Presiding Officer Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Baste was asked whether he had personally seen Sara Duterte’s SALN.

His response was direct: “Hindi po, Your Honor.”

When asked whether he knew the companies and properties declared by the Vice President in her SALN, Baste again answered that he did not.

The exchange took place as the Senate impeachment court examined matters surrounding Sara Duterte’s declared business interests and alleged unexplained wealth under Article II of the impeachment proceedings. The prosecution has focused in part on GenCorp Industries Inc., which Sara Duterte declared as a business interest in her 2024 and 2025 SALNs.

Baste’s Testimony on GenCorp

Baste Duterte appeared before the Senate on September 29 after being subpoenaed to testify in connection with the prosecution’s presentation of evidence.

The Davao City mayor was later declared a hostile witness, allowing prosecutors to ask him leading questions. His testimony centered largely on government transactions involving GenCorp and whether he had personal knowledge of his sister’s interest in the company.

According to reports, Baste maintained that he was not aware of Sara Duterte’s business interest in GenCorp at the time the Davao City government entered into contracts with the company.

He also testified that if he had known about his sister’s interest in GenCorp, he would not have allowed the city government to award contracts to the company.

Reports indicate that Davao City awarded GenCorp multiple contracts between 2022 and 2026. The exact number and total value cited during the proceedings varied depending on the records and testimony presented, with Baste himself referring to 19 contracts.
